  • Nadia Hillier

Following her recent appearance on the cover of London Potters magazine, Rare Is delighted to show Nadia’s artworks. Nadia’s work examines the human condition and our relationship with the natural world, exploring contrasts—positive/negative, chaos/order, destruction/resurrection.

She works primarily in paper porcelain, pushing the material to its limits: hand-rolled and extruded slabs, torn edges that reveal cellulose fibre, unpredictable effects from high-temperature firing, and selective 10% gold lustre accents that reference her Iraqi roots.

Born in Scotland and raised between Baghdad and Perth, Nadia trained on the BA Fine Art Ceramics course at Camberwell. Early mentors encouraged experimentation; a commission of 17 pieces for Liberty of London of decorative stoneware vessels and years working with kilns and in crafts and fashion shaped her practical approach and aesthetic discipline. Personal loss and artistic influences (including Cornelia Parker and Nick Cave) prompted the torn-slab series and a move toward “freeze-framed” moments—work that values process, spontaneity, and the tactile traces of making.

In the studio she measures and stains clay precisely, fires to around 1220°C to preserve movement without collapse and uses transfers and photography to layer imagery. Nadia now works from a garden studio, collecting contemporary ceramics with her partner and entering a new, confident phase of production that blends rigorous technique with improvisational, meditative making.

  • Jack Candy-Kemp

Jack Candy-Kemp is a British artist living in Surrey. He studied his Masters in Painting, graduating from Wimbledon College of Arts, UAL in 2018. His practice is centred around tourism. Looking at the liminal spaces between destinations, he portrays the reflective nature and the exhaustion that comes when travelling. His work responds to the way we visualise the contemporary tourist experience and aims to destroy the contrived rose-tinted imagery that we are subjected to on a day-to-day basis.

Jack paints in gouache on primed board and acrylic gouache on canvas, for its matte finish which opposes the glossy pages within a travel brochure. Jack’s inspiration comes from his own travel experiences, literature, and counterculture such as the writings of Henry Rollins and the films of Jim Jarmusch. Jack channels their ability to highlight and interact with spaces that seem otherwise insignificant, injecting them with a new purpose and function.

Jack Candy-Kemp’s artworks are included in private collections and have exhibited in London galleries including Mall Galleries, The Cass Art Prize and The Royal Academy Summer Exhibition 2023/24. In 2023 had a solo exhibition ‘Nothing To Write Home About’ at New House Art Space, Guildford. Most recently, Jack has exhibited in NYC with Agora Gallery in 2025 and is currently exhibiting in this years Royal Institute of Painter in Watercolour exhibition at Mall Galleries where he received the Presidents Choice Award.

  • Percent

PERCENT is a London-born mixed-media conceptual artist creating work that doesn’t just hang on walls - it does something.  Each piece is tied to a cause, raising awareness and funds, with a percentage of every sale going to organisations working on the issues the work confronts. Nothing complicated. Just not done often enough.

The idea is simple: if something has value, it should create it.

Blending photography, collage, print and street-led techniques, PERCENT builds images through layering, repetition and disruption. A recurring photocopy tiling effect runs through the work - fractured, misaligned, familiar but not quite right. A reflection of a world that feels increasingly disconnected, and a quiet attempt to piece it back together again. Less about perfection, more about unsettling truths.

The subject matter isn’t subtle. It deals with the things we scroll past, step over, or learn to live with - inequality, consumerism, climate damage, and everything in between. Sometimes the work shouts. Other times it nudges. Occasionally it bites. If it makes you slightly uncomfortable, it’s probably working.  Operating under a pseudonym - so the focus stays on the art, not the artist - PERCENT exists to create work that has consequence, not just meaning. Art with a point, Art that has purpose, Art for good.

  • Lilly Daffu | Unique Mixed Media Art & 80s Nostalgia | Surrey Artist UK

Meet Lilly Daffu: Mixed Media Magic with an 80s Soul

Hailing from the suburbs of Surrey, UK, 19-year-old Lilly Daffu is a whirlwind of creativity, blending the tactile appeal of mixed media with a profound obsession for all things 80s. Living under her parents’ roof with her younger brother, Lilly is actively carving out her own artistic niche, finding inspiration in everything from classic films and their catchphrases, to iconic music and nature.

When the mood strikes and anonymity calls, Lilly becomes “Dafuq.” Under this guise, she leaves behind witty, empowering, and sometimes downright cheeky slogans on bridges and forgotten corners of Surrey – a secret artistic life that keeps the neighbours guessing and her spirit alive. While her family might be vaguely aware of her artistic inclinations, they (and especially the neighbours!) are likely unaware of the clandestine spray-can adventures.

A dedicated vegan, Lilly brings a mindful ethos to her art, creating pieces that are not only visually striking but also ethically considered. She often jokes that she was “born in the wrong decade,” and it’s this deep-seated nostalgia for the era of neon, synthesizers, and iconic sci-fi that fuels her artistic output. Whether it’s the magnetic pull of Stranger Things or the simple joy of a retro arcade games, these influences manifest in her captivating mixed media artworks, filled with texture, bold colours, and a unique sense of playful rebellion. Lilly Daffu’s art is more than just a visual treat; it’s a heartfelt journey back in time, a testament to finding your voice, and a vibrant celebration of the culture that continues to inspire her.
